Construction:

June proved to be a productive month with some good weather finally prevailing. This allowed the Great Barrier Reef Arena structure to really start to take shape.

Civil Bulk Earthworks and Stormwater have been completed which will help drain away any future unseasonable wet weather for the remaining duration of the build.

The concrete plats were installed up to gridline 8 with the remainder arriving on site late June to complete the concourse and VIP seating areas.

Ground slabs were completed for the amenities, North stand wings and players races.

Blockwork resumed in all areas including the entry ramps, main concourse, amenities, north stand building, spectators’ berm and interchange benches.

Some painted sections of structural steel for the upper concourse have commenced installation with the remaining steel being delivered to the site in stages after being prepped and painted locally in Mackay.

Upcoming works for July include:

  • L1 formwork and concrete FRP for amenities and northstand building
  • formwork and reinforcing to concourse walkway behind seating
  • continuation of blockwork
  • scaffold to L1 areas and concourse external
  • install remaining concrete plat seating
  • install upper concourse steel
  • footings and steel to plaza deck area

We thank you for your patience and understanding in advance as we deliver this exciting infrastructure to the Mackay community. Stay tuned for more project updates throughout 2022.
