We are thrilled to announce that the Great Barrier Reef Arena, nestled in the stunning Mackay region, will host the Century Cricket Competitions from 2024 to 2026.
This exciting announcement comes as part of a three-year deal secured with the Mackay Regional Council, showcasing our world-class facilities to a national audience.
From 2024 to 2026, the national competition will feature eight teams competing for an $80,000 prize pool over a weekend-long event. Teams from Queensland, South Australia, and Victoria will converge in Mackay each year, showcasing top-tier cricket talent in a fast-paced 100-ball format inspired by The Hundred in the UK.
Mackay Regional Council Mayor, Greg Williamson, expressed his enthusiasm: “We expect these tournaments to draw a big crowd and we’re excited to showcase the Great Barrier Reef Arena, a first-class facility for players and spectators, as we cheer on our very own team, the Great Barrier Reef Rays”.
After their successful debut in the Century Cricket Competition last year, we are excited to rally behind our local team, the Great Barrier Reef Rays, as they play on home ground. Featuring a lineup boasting names like Ben Laughlin, Jonathan Wells, and Steve McGiffin, we eagerly anticipate their upcoming matches against strong opponents!
This year, the Rays will also introduce junior athletes to the Century Cricket Junior competition in Brisbane, offering a new platform for local young athletes to shine.
