GREAT BARRIER REEF ARENA

FEDERAL GOVERNMENT SUPPORT FOR HARRUP PARK EXPANSION

We are delighted to inform you that the Federal Government has approved
HPCC’s application to the Regional Growth Fund for a $10 million matched
funding contribution to the Great Barrier Reef Arena expansion project.

Federal Member for Dawson, George Christensen MP, announced the news at a media conference at Harrup Park on Friday morning.

The Federal Member said that high quality applications had been received across the electorate and nation for the $272 million fund, but only a limited few could be successful in progressing to the final stage.

This is a pat on our back for our region. The project selected can drive economic growth and create jobs both immediately and in the longer term.

“Harrup Park has a visionary plan to build on their capacity to host major sporting events, particularly in the Cricket and AFL realm and they’re already establishing a great track record in this regard,” Christensen said.

The Club has been planning for the project for several years, which will deliver new spectator seating capacity and key media facilities that will support the continued attraction of big sporting events of high value to Mackay and region.

It will also provide new community amenities, female change rooms, player and official facilities, food and beverage facilities and increased parking.

Cricket Australia, Cricket Queensland and AFL Queensland are fully supportive of the project, with Cricket Australia ranking Harrup Park as the number one priority venue in regional Queensland.

Together with existing event commitments including AFL pre-season matches and WBBL games, this places Harrup Park in a great position to attract major sporting events to Mackay in the future.
